Heritage Montgomery Celebrates $322,230 in State Heritage Grants Awarded to Local Partners

Seven Montgomery County Projects Funded Through Statewide $4.6 Million Initiative Supporting Maryland’s Cultural and Historical Resources

ROCKVILLE, MD — Heritage Montgomery is proud to announce the Montgomery County Heritage Area has been awarded a combined total of $322,230 in grant funding from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA), as part of a larger $4.6 million investment in heritage tourism and preservation efforts across the state. Seven heritage partners will receive a total of $197,230 to support preservation and interpretation projects across the county. The remaining $125,000 will support Heritage Montgomery’s management and mini-grant program.

Governor Wes Moore’s administration recently announced that 91 matching grants were awarded through the MHAA to nonprofits, local jurisdictions, and heritage tourism organizations to support projects that enhance Maryland’s cultural resources and drive economic growth. The following Montgomery County organizations received funding:

  • City of Rockville: $15,850
    Phase II: Avery Road Colored Cemetery GPR Survey
  • Clara Barton Fund, Inc.: $50,000
    Clara Barton National Historic Site 50th Anniversary Interpretive Wayside Signage
  • Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, Inc.: $19,925
    Civil Rights History Educational Tour and Materials at Glen Echo Park
  • National Capital Historical Museum of Transportation, Inc.: $11,455
    Streetcar Hall & Maintenance Barn HVAC Phase I: Mechanical & Engineering Design Plans
  • Pleasant View United Methodist Church: $100,000
    Rehabilitation Restoration of the Pleasant View Methodist Episcopal Church

Montgomery County’s awards are part of the MHAA’s broader efforts to support heritage areas that preserve the state’s cultural and natural assets while also serving as economic engines. According to the Maryland Department of Planning, the Heritage Areas Program contributes $2.4 billion annually to Maryland’s economy and supports over 33,000 jobs.
