Topics will include Michael's work preparing, preserving, and promoting African American footways, its parent traditions in Africa, and legacy in the food culture of the American South. Join him for a lively discussion to explore how the preparation of food unites and divides our narratives and ways we can use it for good.

Dance to great music with great callers! June's dance features music by David Knight, Owen Morrison & Carrie Rose with caller Scott Higgs. Beginners are welcome. The evening starts with an intro workshop from 7-7:30 pm, followed by dancing from 7:30-10. Presented by Carpe Diem Arts in partnership with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, Washington Revels, and Montgomery County Recreation. Cost: $10 general; $8 FSGW, BFMS, CDSS members & Revels; $5 students and those without income; free to first-timers.

Country School Association of America Annual Conference

June 17 - June 19

Several restored Montgomery County schoolhouses will be highlighted during an upcoming national conference sponsored by the Country School Association of America, to be held June 17-19 near Frederick, MD. The Seneca schoolhouse will be a stop during a daylong bus tour of restored schoolhouses in Maryland and Virginia, and a visit to both the Boyds Negro School and Kingsley schoolhouse in Little Bennett Park will assess "separate but equal" education during the days of segregated schooling. Heritage Days 2019

Join Heritage Montgomery and dozens of partners for this FREE festival that highlights historic, cultural, and outdoor recreation sites offering special programs including exhibits & demonstrations, live music, activities for children, and much more!
