Bring your child to enjoy monthly book readings during “StoryTime Station,” an enriching program offered by the City of Gaithersburg. The 45-minute readings, recommended for ages 3 to 6, take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. Admission is $3 per child, adults and infants are free. An African American roadside community lived and worked on this historic site from emancipation well into the 20th century. Their culture and traditions heavily influenced those of surrounding communities, and their story is deeply woven into Montgomery County’s rich history. At the center of this site is Oakley Cabin, which was inhabited until 1976 and now serves as a living history museum.

Glen Echo Park Partnership’s annual Halloween-themed family event. Hands-on crafts, pumpkin decorating ($2 per pumpkin), face painting and a costume contest (3:15 p.m.) in the Spanish Ballroom; trick-or-treating – or visiting –studios, galleries and theaters. Seven Locks History Walk

Take a one-mile history walk along the Seven Locks of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park on Saturday, October 27, at 2 pm starting at the historic lockhouse at Lock 10, Clara Barton Parkway. Canal Trust volunteer and local historian Judith Welles, author of Cabin John: Legends and Life of an Uncommon Place, will lead a tour of the lockhouse and the Seven Locks which were once part of Cabin John.
