Germantown Historic District

Never incorporated, but always adapting, Germantown, Maryland evolved from an 1840s Crossroads Village to an 1890s Railroad Town to a 1990s Corridor City. Because each change saw the relocation of town center, the 1890s version remains somewhat intact. Created in 1989, the Germantown Historic District encompasses a cluster of historic buildings, both commercial and residential that taken together illustrate a typical agricultural railroad town in the early 20 th century. The Germantown Historical Society is housed in the 1922 Community Bank provides further connections to our past with its public programs, exhibits and archives.
