Twilight Trek

Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park 16501 Norwood Road, Sandy Spring, MD

A new evening version of Woodlawn's popular guided hikes on the Underground Railroad Experience Trail. “Conductors” provide historical context and explain techniques used to navigate the way North to freedom including the challenges and opportunities nighttime travel presented. Woodlawn Museum admission included. Participants should bring a flashlight and wear light colored or reflective clothing.

Pontoon Tours

Seneca Creek State Park 11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD

Take a relaxing 45-minute boat ride on the pontoon boat “Blue Heron.” Learn about history of the area and search for that wildlife that call Clopper Lake home. Tours are at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – meet at the Boat House. There is a small fee in addition to the park entrance fee.

Beginner Hooping

Get a great work out in while learning a new way to exercise. This lesson will focus on basic waist hula hooping and strengthening coordination. All skill levels welcome. Limited hoops available to borrow. Meet at the Park Office.

Let’s Talk Turtles

Patuxent River State Park 23222 Georgia Ave, Brookeville, MD

Participants will talk about the largest and smallest turtles found in Maryland and the threats they face. Compare the life cycle of a land and a sea turtle, then explore different challenges turtles face to survive through hands-on activities. Meet at the Nature Center.

Weekday Hike

Seneca Creek State Park 11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD

This is a chance to get some fresh air and exercise after work. Participants will hike a loop of between 1.5 and 2 miles, with frequent stops for animal sightings, plant and praying mantis egg case searches. Meet at Kingfisher Overlook. Overflow parking is available at Chickadee.
