Weekday Hike

Seneca Creek State Park 11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD

This is a chance to get some fresh air and exercise after work. We will hike a loop of between 1.5 and 2 miles, with frequent stops for animal sightings, plants, and praying mantis egg case searches. Meet at Kingfisher Overlook (overflow parking is available in Chickadee).

Head to Glen Echo Park for an evening of live music as BG and the Mojo Hands plays a versatile mix of Blues, Swing, and Rockabilly. The Bumper Car Pavilion is covered and has bench seating. Concert will be held rain or shine – come out to listen, or dance, or both!

Camping 101

Take Me Fishing

Join an expert angler for a beginner’s course in fishing. The park supplies rods and reels, or you may bring your own. A non-tidal license is required for ages 16+ however, these are not sold in the park. Meet at the Boat Center.

Nature Scavenger Hunt

What's out there??? Use self-guided scavenger hunt sheets to discover an amazing variety of natural gems. Three different difficulty levels area available at the Nature Center.

Pontoon Tours

Seneca Creek State Park 11950 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD

Take a relaxing 45 minute boat ride on the pontoon boat “Blue Heron.” Learn about history of the area and search for that wildlife that call Clopper Lake home. Tours are at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – meet at the Boat House. There is a small fee in addition to the park entrance fee.

Tune Circle & Song Circle

Come to the Hyattstown Mill Arts Project's monthly Tune and Song Circles with July host Jason Miller of Gravy Sopper fiddling fame. Tune Circle starts at 6:00 and the Song Circle at 7:30.

Twilight Trek

Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park 16501 Norwood Road, Sandy Spring, MD

A new evening version of Woodlawn's popular guided hikes on the Underground Railroad Experience Trail. “Conductors” provide historical context and explain techniques used to navigate the way North to freedom including the challenges and opportunities nighttime travel presented. Woodlawn Museum admission included. Participants should bring a flashlight and wear light colored or reflective clothing.
