Quilt Codes of the Underground Railroad: History or Mystery?

January 19, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Learn about how this aspect of the Underground Railroad had been researched by some and still referred to as fabricated stories by others.  Were quilts used to aid the escaping slaves?  The meaning of the codes will be reviewed and linked to the exhibits at the Museum as you contemplate why it is important to ensure that family history cannot be pushed aside as myth and folklore. This Speakers Series presentation at the Sandy Spring Slave Museum will feature Dr. Blanche Brownley.
