Celebrating Black History Month – Ken-Gar: Then and Now

February 16, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

One of our local neighborhoods, Ken-Gar, was founded by former slaves in 1892. Over the years, the neighborhood has transformed from a haven for African-Americans to a diverse community of residents from other countries and backgrounds. Local resident Karen Jackson will share the fascinating history of the struggle and victories of this 125+ year-old community. To complement her stories, Lee’s Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest church in Ken-Gar, will showcase a performance by some of their members.
