Bring your family and a blanket and enjoy free movies under the stars on the front lawn of historic Kentlands Mansion. Screenings take place from 7:30 to 11 p.m. with the movies starting just after sunset. Admission and popcorn are free. Light concessions, drinks, beer, and wine will be available for cash purchase and Paladar Latin Kitchen will be onsite selling some of their favorite dishes.

Flying Squirrels

Maryland Flying Squirrels are abundant, cute, and active year-round, but few see them in the wild because they are active at night – nocturnal. Brookside Nature Center has established a squirrel feeding station so some of our flying squirrels can be seen up close by our visitors. The program starts on the Nature Center deck 30 minutes after sunset to allow the sky to darken. Rain cancels the program. For more information, see link below.

Take a relaxing 45-minute evening boat ride on the Blue Heron. Learn about history of the area and search for wildlife that call Clopper Lake home. $2/person in addition to park entrance fees. An African American roadside community lived and worked on this historic site from emancipation well into the 20th century. Their culture and traditions heavily influenced those of surrounding communities, and their story is deeply woven into Montgomery County’s rich history. At the center of this site is Oakley Cabin, which was inhabited until 1976 and now serves as a living history museum.
