Smithsonian Castle and Seneca Quarry

Paths to the Present – Smithsonian Castle and Seneca Quarry

The Seneca Quarry is located next to the C & O Canal, north of Seneca Creek. Now largely forgotten, it was the source of the distinct red sandstone that built the Smithsonian Castle and hundreds of structures in the DC/Baltimore region. Tour this historic site with Garrett Peck, author of “The Smithsonian Castle and the Seneca Quarry”.
