Helping Break the Chains of Oppression

May 3 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

To commemorate the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia on May 4, 1990, the Latvian Museum is presenting a program at 2:00 p.m. on May 3, 2025, at the Latvian Evangelical. Luth. Church of Washington, DC, 400 Hurley Avenue. Rockville, MD 20850.

The program will feature four speakers:  Raimonds Baumans, Tija Karklis, Juris Blodnieks, and Knuts Ozols.  All of these brave people participated in various protests outside of Latvia that helped Latvia regain its freedom when the Soviet Union collapsed.

The program will be in English with the hope that we can reach a wide audience and remind people of the fragile nature of freedom and democracy in these fraught times. Come hear them, bring your relatives, friends, and neighbors, and visit The Latvian Museum before and after the program.  The museum will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and after the presentation.  Meet the speakers at a reception to follow.
