Skulls and Skins: Bear Facts

Woodlawn Whispers: A Night of Living History is a new tour guide-led living history program that introduces visitors to Woodlawn Manor’s 19th century residents and guests while learning about the impact of slavery and quest for freedom from some of Maryland’s residents. Program takes place outdoors (indoors during inclement weather), and visitors should dress appropriately. Advance registration is required. Timed tours start at 6:00 pm and 6:45 pm; limited capacity per time slot. Tickets not sold day of program.

CCC Campfire

Come to Seneca Creek State Park for a special twilight campfire living history program on "Roosevelt's Tree Army," the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. Historian/Interpreter Ranger Erik will appear in character as George Richter, a civilian enrollee from Gaithersburg working at the CCC camp in New Germany State Park. Autumn Pontoon Tour

Take a relaxing, 45-minute afternoon boat ride on the pontoon boat, "Blue Heron." Come see the beautiful shades of autumn as the leaves begin to change around Clopper Lake. There is a small charge per person in addition to park entrance fees; meet at the Boat Center.

Join speaker James H. Johnston for “Misplacing History: Rowser’s Ford” at the Beall-Dawson House in Rockville. During this free, lunchtime talk he will discuss Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart's crossing of the Potomac with 5,000 horsemen and subsequent ransacking of Montgomery County in 1863, and will solve the historical mystery of where the crossing really occurred.
