Free Cajun Zydeco Outdoor Concert
Brookside Gardens is hosting a free concert on Tuesday evening, July 2 set in the beauty of the gardens. No registration is required. Bring friends, family, chairs, blankets, and picnics! Food trucks will also be available. The concert – featuring Crawdadies performing Cajun/Zydeco and Roots Rock – takes place on the Visitor Center lawn.

Come help maintain Patuxent River State Park's current trail systems. Participants will walk the trails and cut back anything intruding upon our trails and note any major issues. Please bring close-toed shoes, water, and work gloves. Meet at the Nature Center.

This is a chance to get some fresh air and exercise after work. Participants will hike a loop of between 1.5 and 2 miles, with frequent stops for animal sightings, plant and praying mantis egg case searches. Meet at the Kingfisher Outlook, with overflow parking available bye in Chickadee.

Take Me Fishing
Join an expert angler for a beginner's house in fishing. The park supplies rods and reels, but you may bring your own. A non-tidal fishing license is required for ages 16+; however, the park does not offer these for sale. Meet at the Boat Center.

Roly-Poly Hunt
Starting at the Nature Center, participants will turn over nearby logs to find Roly-Polies or Pill Bugs – then examine them under the microscope and talk about what makes a good habitat for them.

Help keep Patuxent River State Park clean and safe by removing some of the trash that has accumulated over the years. Please bring close-toed shoes, water, and work gloves. Ages 10 and over.

Learn what plants are beneficial to the native wildlife of Maryland, and learn how to identify plants that are considered “invasive.” Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a plant identification guide (optional). Meet at the Blue Jay Pavilion.

Join us on a night walk through the woods to search for signs of owls and other animals. Many types of animals are more likely to be seen at night, so this is a great opportunity to catch a glimpse of some. Bring a flashlight if you have one!
